Prometheus Team Medic Course
Course Overview
Providing medical care in overseas and remote locations is far more than first aid in an unfamiliar environment. Medics need to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively plan and provide comprehensive medical care while knowing when to seek further medical assistance. The Prometheus Team Medic Course provides this specialist training for the overseas and remote medic.
Aim
The Prometheus Team Medic Course builds on core medical skills and trains the medical provider to plan and provide medical care specific to overseas and remote hostile environments.
Entry Criteria
FREC 3, FREC 4, FPOS (Intermediate), CMT Class I (or service equivalent), EMT or Paramedic.
Course Content
The course focuses on the development of autonomous decision-making abilities and equips students with the up-to-date specialist knowledge. Training includes elements of remote trauma management, as well as environmental health, primary care, dental first aid, tropical medicine and medical planning. The syllabus includes:

- Travel Health
- Field Health and Hygiene
- Environmental Health
- Primary Care
- Safe Prescribing
- Dental First Aid
- Tropical Medicine
- Heat Illness & Cold Injuries
- Altitude Illness
- Wound Care and Suturing
- Field Trauma Management
- Casualty Evacuation
Skills workshops include familiarisation with supraglottic airways, intravenous access techniques, management of tension pneumothorax and wound closure methods.
Certification
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
